If this is your first time visiting Opera Prelude’s website, welcome! This page tells you about our friendly and informal events, suitable for beginners and aficionados alike. If you’ve never been to an opera, it can be rather hard to know where to start - let us introduce you to this diverse and enriching art form with our lecture recitals, concerts and masterclasses.

Lecture Recitals

Our young artists offer lectures (full of singing!) on a range of subjects, often related to a particular composer or genre. The informal lectures are 2 hours long, filled with information and music, ideal for anyone keen to learn more about opera and classical music. Our regular venues are Cadogan Hall (London) & Christchurch Centre (Henley).

Opera Prelude creates concerts in some fantastic locations throughout the year, from summer spectaculars to intimate private dining experiences. We have performed in historic and prestigious locations such as Leighton House Museum, Pushkin House, Leith Hill Place and Apsley House. We work closely with musicologists and heritage curators to tailor unique events to these venues.

These mornings offer an inspiring insight into the development of a young singer’s voice and the considerable commitment required to reach the top. Masterclasses involve a ‘master’ professional from the opera world (conductor, singer, director etc.) coming to hear our young artists and work with them on selected repertoire. We have been honoured to work with some true legends of the industry: Della Jones, Dame Felicity Lott, Sir John Tomlinson and Roderick Williams.
