Burgh House Series

We have had a wonderful month at Opera Prelude, marked by the successful launch of our recital series at Burgh House. It was a pleasure to welcome soprano Georgie Malcolm and pianist Thomas Ang on the 16th, followed by baritone Sam Young on the 23rd. Both performances were very well received by the audience who where captivated by the beautiful music in the exquisite setting of Burgh House. The acoustics provided an amazing backdrop for our young artists, and we are immensely grateful to Burgh House for their continued support.

Grace Nyandoro, soprano joined us at our new London venue, Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Square, with her lecture recital, Voices of Angels: the Evolution of Soprano Roles. She was accompanied by Thomas Ang on piano. Their performance was met with great appreciation by our London audience..

In Henley, Phoebe Smith, soprano, captivated the audience with her lecture recital entitled Love, Laughter and Loss: the Trials and Tribulations of Operatic Sopranos. Her performance was met with high praise, particularly her rendition of the “Tiara Aria” from Jonathan Dove’s The Enchanted Pig

We are delighted to share these words from Amanda Sadler at the Henley Standard:

“her personality shone through the light, playful phases and rapid rhythmic sections, all with crisp diction. Delightful. […] These two young artists were on fine form musically for a well thought-out talk delivered with commitment and energy.”

Our young artists have been involved in a number of exciting events beyond Opera Prelude this month. Soprano Eyra Norman, the 2024 winner of the Schubert Song Prize, gave a concert for the Schubert Society of Britain, accompanied by pianist Abhisri Chaudhuri. We are delighted that Abhisiri will also be performing alongside Eyra in their upcoming lecture recital Colour and Coloratura: How Melismatic Roles Changed Audiences

Soprano Natasha Agarwal recently took part in Glyndebourne’s in their world premiere performance of Jonathan Dove’s newest opera Uprising, covering the role of Zoe Green. During the run, she had the opportunity to step into the role, delivering a wonderful performance. Congratulations Natasha.
